Bio

Coach Pike came to Sandhills Community College in the spring of 2013 as a volunteer coach leading the Flyers to an 11th place finish in their first season.  He was elevated to head coach for the 2013-2014 season. His 2014 squad (13th) and 2015 team (11th) also earned top 15 finishes at the NJCAA tournaments in Daytona Beach, FL, and Mesa, AZ, respectively. In a short time Pike coached four players who continued their golf careers at four year institutions including: Kim Mitchell (Western Carolina), Raven Brown (Mars Hill), Katie Stroupe (Mars Hill) and Emily Cunningham (Ohio). Sandhills garnered Region X titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

In March 2016 Pike co-hosted Spring Training at Pinehurst with Pinehurst Resort bringing Columbia, Harvard and Princeton to Pinehurst No. 8 for a 36 hole tournament. The night prior the Flyers hosted a panel discussion geared toward encouraging young ladies to play the game of golf.

Pike earned an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, both in Physical Education. Pike compete on the baseball team at Wake Forest. He taught and coached in North Carolina public schools for 30 years before retiring and gaining his PGA Class A certification. While at the high school level Pike coached golf for 25 years, 20 of those years at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC. His teams captured two NCHSAA state championships and nine conference championships. He coached future North & South champion and current NC State head women’s golf coach Paige Marsh.

Coach Pike spends part of his time as a PGA teaching pro at Legacy Golf Links in the Pinehurst area and enjoys playing golf.
