Mitchell Paces Flyers and Field at Cutter Creek

The Sandhills Community College men's golf team showcased their talent against a highly competitive NCAA Division I and II field at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Elon University and East Carolina University. The Flyers finished 12th overall in the team standings, gaining valuable experience against established programs while demonstrating resilience across three rounds of play.
William Mitchell Claims Individual Title
The highlight of the tournament was William Mitchell's dominant performance, as he finished 10-under par to capture the individual championship. Mitchell's final-round 67 (-5) was one of the best rounds of the tournament, securing him the top spot in a field filled with NCAA talent. His consistency and poise under pressure set him apart, proving that he can compete—and win—against golfers at the highest collegiate levels.
Team Effort in a Deep Field
Alongside Mitchell, the Flyers saw solid contributions from Evan Cowell (+12), Landon Cabingas (+14), Wyatt Beaver (+19), Vegas Melen (+13), and William Dement (+31). The team carded rounds of +10, +13, and +2, finishing at +25 for the tournament—an impressive result given the elite competition.
Eyes on a National Championship
With a strong showing at Cutter Creek behind them, the Flyers now turn their attention to the NJCAA National Championship, set to take place in Chautauqua, New York, during the first week of June. After competing against some of the best NCAA programs, Sandhills will head into the national tournament battle-tested and ready to make a push for their fifth consecutive National Championship title.
