Flyers Battle Southern Virginia University in Competitive Home Doubleheader

The Sandhills Community College beach volleyball team hosted Southern Virginia University on Monday in a competitive doubleheader filled with tightly contested matches and strong individual performances.
In the opening match at 1 p.m., the Flyers picked up two impressive victories in the top three flights. The No. 2 duo of Caroline Bradford and Jenna Luquer rallied for a thrilling 27-25, 21-10 win, while Lainey Mullins and Reagan Smith controlled the No. 3 court with a 21-18, 21-9 sweep. Aiden Bullard and Nikki Lambert put up a strong fight at the top spot but ultimately fell to SVU's Claire Grasteit and Cami Millus, 21-18, 21-13.
SVU claimed wins in the No. 4 and 5 spots, but the exhibition pairing of Kennedy Koziarz and Katelyn Bunting split sets with SVU's Morgan Allmond and Claire Harris, 21-14, 17-21, giving SCC more valuable experience in competitive play.
The second match of the day, which began at 3 p.m., mirrored the first with SCC earning two more solid wins. Bradford and Luquer remained dominant at No. 2, cruising to a 21-11, 21-8 victory, while Mullins and Smith once again handled their opponents at No. 3 with a 21-11, 21-19 result.
Despite those strong performances, SVU took the remaining matches in straight sets. Koziarz and Bunting again split their exhibition match, falling 14-21 in the first set before bouncing back with a 21-16 win in the second.
The Flyers will be home again on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm for a double header with Richard Bland College. This match will be sophomore day for the Flyers and those sophomore players will be recognized before game 1.
