Lady Flyers Tied for First Place After Road Win Over the Cobras

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team bounced back after dropping the first set and went on to defeat Caldwell Tech 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21 in an important match in Hudson on Friday evening.
The Lady Flyers now 7-1 in Region 10, were defeated 3-2 by the Cobras last Monday at The Hangar. The two teams are now tied for first place in the loss column. Ranked No. 4 in NJCAA Division III this week, Coach Alicia Riggan's squad improved to 27-5 overall while the No. 11 ranked Cobras fell to 5-1 in the conference and 15-3 overall.
Saturday's originally scheduled home matches against Clinton College have been canceled. The Lady Flyers are idle until next Friday and Saturday when they close out conference regular season play with home matches against Virginia Peninsula at 1 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Caldwell Tech will be hosting the Region 10 tournament this year.
"I'm very proud of the girls bouncing back after losing to them on Monday," Riggan said. The girls came out focused with a goal in mind. Caldwell is a solid team and we knew we had our work cut out for us.
"We played together and for each other. Caroline (Bradford) grabbed her 500th kill tonight as well."
Bradford led the winners in kills with 11 followed by Kristin Dodds with 10 and Cassidy Jewett with nine. Sydney Garner and Zoey Hall were credited with 29 and 14 assists, respectively. The leader in digs was Lainey Mullins with 33.
The 27 wins ties the program high achieved by the 2017 squad that finished the season with a record of 27-6.
Region 10 Standings: Sandhills 7-1, Caldwell Tech 5-1, Patrick and Henry 5-4, Central Carolina 2-5, Rockigham 0-4 and Virginia Peninsula 0-5.
