Flyers Weather the Storm

The Sandhills Community College Flyers secured a significant win over Division II Davidson-Davie Community College Storm, kicking off their eight-game road trip in dominant fashion. After falling behind early, the Flyers rallied to earn a commanding 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-15, 25-10), improving to 6-0 on the season.
This marks the Flyers' first road win against the Storm since the 2021-22 season, where they also posted a 3-0 victory.
The Storm (0-2) came out strong in the first set, jumping to a 9-3 lead. However, the Flyers responded with a defensive surge, followed by a series of kills, and capitalized on Storm errors. Despite trailing 12-9, Sandhills rallied to tie the set at 15-15. From there, the Flyers closed the set on a 10-3 run, taking control of the match.
In the second set, Sandhills jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Davidson-Davie tied it up at 4-4 and briefly took the lead. The Flyers quickly regained control, seizing a 6-5 advantage and never looked back. With momentum on their side, the Flyers pushed their lead to 20-12 and comfortably secured the second set.
The third set began with the Flyers dominating from the start, surging to a 9-1 lead with a barrage of kills. Although the Storm fought back and kept the score close, they could not overcome Sandhills' relentless attack. The Flyers maintained their composure and sealed the match with a decisive win.
Caroline Bradford led the Flyers with eight kills, eight digs, and 14 points. Kristin Dodds contributed five kills, five digs, two blocks, and seven points, while Cassidy Jewett added four kills, one dig, two blocks, and six points. Lainey Mullins chipped in with three kills, one assist, 18 digs, and five points.
Additional contributions came from Ellie Everhart, who recorded three kills, and teammates Jenna Luquer, Sydney Garner, Mariana Clayton, and Katelyn Bunting, each adding a kill. Hall led the team with 10 assists, and collectively, the Flyers recorded 33 points at the service line.
Next up, the Flyers head to Perrysburg, Ohio, to participate in the Owens Invitational at Owens Community College. Their first match is set for Friday at 10 a.m. against Kalamazoo Valley CC, followed by a 3:15 p.m. match against Lorain County CC.
