Dodds Leads No. 8 ranked Lady Flyers in Victory at Wake Tech

Service aces for three of the final four points by sophomore Sydney Garner helped the Sandhills Community College volleyball team complete a 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-2 victory over Wake Tech in Raleigh on Tuesday evening.
Freshman Kristin Dodds led the No. 8 ranked in NJCAA Division III Lady Flyers in the hitting department with 22 kills as Coach Alicia Riggan's squad improved to 16-4 with the win over the DII Eagles, now 6-4.
The Lady Flyers return to action with a 6 p.m. home match against DII Davidson-Davie CC on Thursday. The Lady Flyers swept the Storm (2-8) in an earlier match between the teams in Thomasville.
After winning the first set in convincing fashion, the Eagles won two of the next three to force the decisive fifth set. Kills by Cassidy Jewett and Caroline Bradford got the Flyers off to a 2-0 start in the tiebreaker. Later, leading 3-2, they wrapped it up by scoring the final 12 points.
Dodds 22 kills came on 38 attacks for a .447 kill percentage. Caroline Bradford was next on the team with 10. Garner and Nikki Lambert finished with four service aces each. Mariana Clayton was credited with a team-high 29 assists. The leaders in digs were Lambert with 20 and Lainey Mullins with 18.
Lady Flyers among the statistical leaders in DIII nationally this week include: Dodds, second in kills (190) and third in block solos (31); Mullins, third in digs (267); Lambert, second in service aces (47) and Bradford, fifth (33); Katelyn Bunting, fifth in block solos (28).
