Flyers Top Lancers In Four Sets
The 11th-ranked Sandhills Community College Flyers continued their road success with a 3-1 win over Lenoir Community College. The 3-1 decision coming just over a week after the Flyers prevailed in a previous five-set thriller between the two teams. The Flyers came away with a hard-fought victory, with set scores of 27-29, 25-14, 25-19, and 25-17, improving their season record to 9-2.
With the win, the Flyers officially completed a season sweep over the Lancers.
The opening set was a battle from start to finish, with both teams trading points beyond the 25-point mark. In the end, the Lancers gained momentum and secured a thrilling 29-27 win to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. However, the Flyers responded immediately, dominating the second set with a commanding 25-14 victory to even the match at 1-1.
In the third set, the Flyers showcased their offensive strength, pulling away with a 25-19 win despite a late rally from Lenoir. They carried that momentum into the fourth set, continuing their trend of closing out matches efficiently, clinching the set 25-17 and securing the 3-1 victory.
Kristin Dodds led the Flyers with 13 kills and 14 points, while Caroline Bradford contributed nine kills and nine points. Katelyn Bunting added six kills and seven points. Mariana Clayton led the Flyers with 21 assists and Sydney Garner added 13 assists.
Defensively, Lainey Mullins and Nikki Lambert anchored the Flyers with 24 digs apiece, while Bradford chipped in with 23 digs.
The Flyers will next travel to Cleveland Community College for a doubleheader against the Yetis, with matches scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow.
