Flyers Wrap Up Day Two at NJCAA Championship

Sandhills Community College capped off pool play Friday morning with a strong 4-1 victory over Region 10 rival Wake Tech. The Flyers earned wins on four of five courts to finish third in Pool C and advance to the championship bracket.

• Aydan Bullard/Nikki Lambert (SCC) defeat Gabrielle Carter/Chloe Stein (WTCC) 21-17, 16-21, 15-9

• Abby Carver/Olivia Garzelloni (WTCC) defeat Caroline Bradford/Jenna Luquer (SCC) 18-21, 21-18, 15-8

• Lainey Mullins/Reagan Smith (SCC) defeat Mary Barnes/Marlaina Vicente (WTCC) 22-20, 19-21, 15-10

• Katelyn Bunting/Zoey Hall (SCC) defeat Amber Bittner/Madison Fisher (WTCC) 21-13, 22-20

• Emery Freeman/Jacque Holden (SCC) defeat Skylar Bakowski/Cheyenne Yester (WTCC) 21-12, 21-7

Later that afternoon, Sandhills faced a tough Mesa squad in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. Mesa clinched the dual with wins in the first three matches, ending play per tournament rules (dual ends once a team reaches three wins).

• Brianna Anderson/Kendyl Arnett (Mesa) defeat Lainey Mullins/Reagan Smith (SCC) 21-9, 21-9

• Madden Bingham/Kylee Pew (Mesa) defeat Katelyn Bunting/Zoey Hall (SCC) 21-19, 21-9

• Matches featuring Bullard/Lambert and Freeman/Holden were not completed

With the loss, Sandhills moves into the consolation bracket and will meet Wake Tech again in a rematch Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
