Lady Flyer Golfers Begin NJCAA Tournament Play on Tuesday in Chautauqua

Lady Flyer Golfers Begin NJCAA Tournament Play on Tuesday in Chautauqua

Sandhills Community College sophomore Scotty Foley will tee off at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY on Tuesday as the defending individual champion of the NJCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.

The women's and men's teams, including a Sandhills men's squad bidding for a third national title in a row, will begin teeing off a 9 a.m. in the four-day, 72-hole tournaments that conclude on Friday.

Foley and teammate Ava Ray finished first and second at the inaugural women's Division III event last June that included six golfers and no complete teams.  Previously there was one women's tournament for all divisions.

This time around, Lady Flyers Coach Herb Pike will have a third player in Western Carolina transfer Trinity Ahing who earned medalist honors in three of the team's four tournaments this spring while compiling a stroke average of 76.3 in those events.

Foley was the medalist and Ahing was the runner-up in the other spring tournament.

With four scores required to post a team result, the Lady Flyers will again not be in a position to compete for a team title.

Foley's winning score last year was 82-78-79-80-319.  Teams from Oxford Emory (GA) and RCSJ Gloucester (NJ) are expected to compete for the first Division III women's team title this week.
