Trinity Ahing Earns Medalist Honors for Third Time in Four Spring Events

Trinity Ahing Earns Medalist Honors for Third Time in Four Spring Events

Sandhills Community College sophomore Trinity Ahing sank a five-foot birdie putt on her final hole of the day on Tuesday afternoon to cap an even-par final round and captured medalist honors at the Deercroft Spring Break Invitational held at Deercroft Golf Club in Wagram.

The tournament victory was the third of the spring for Ahing who was the runner-up in the Lady Flyers only other tournament of the spring. The closing birdie, her tournament-high seventh of the two days, gave her a 36-hole score of 76-72-148.  Elise Forberg of Georgia Military College finished in second place after rounds of 77-74-151.

Also for the Lady Flyers, sophomore Scotty Foley, who earned medalist honors by four strokes over Ahing last week at the Stitch Flyers Intercollegiate, bounced back from posting a 90 on Monday to shoot a 4-over par 76 that was Tuesday's third lowest score in the field of 31 golfers.  She finished in a tie for 11th place with the scores of 90-76-166.   Flyers' sophomore Ava Ray tied for 18th place with scores of 84-88-172.

The Flyers did not have the four players required to post a team score.  Eastern Florida State (311-318-629) won team honors by 36 strokes over the Methodist B team followed by Georgia Military College, Ava Maria College, Methodist C and Montreat.

With no more tournaments scheduled between now and the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Chautauqua, NY on June 6-9, Pike and the team will take the rest of the week off before returning to practice next week.

Foley was the medalist and Ray was the runner-up at last year's inaugural Division III tournament, also held in New York.

In addition to Ahing's latest accomplishment, Pike was pleased with Foley's dramatic recovery from Monday's uncharacteristic first round result as well as Ray's consistent play throughout the entire spring.
