Lady Flyers' Ahing Earns Medalist Honors at Pfeiffer Spring Invite

Lady Flyers' Ahing Earns Medalist Honors at Pfeiffer Spring Invite

Sandhills Community College sophomore Trinity Ahing posted scores of 72-76-148 and earned medalist honors at the Pfeiffer Spring Invitational held at Lion's Paw Golf Links in Ocean Isle, NC on Monday and Tuesday.

Ahing finished six strokes in front of second place Chelsea Baker of Mars Hill University in the field of 13 teams and 74 golfers from primarily NCAA Division II and III colleges.

The Lady Flyers did not have the required four players to post a team score, but sophomore Scotty Foley tied for 12th place individually after rounds of 85-85-170 and sophomore Ava Ray tied for 21st with scores of 86-87-173.

Adrian College (MI) posted scores of 329-335-664 to win the team competition by 11 strokes over second place Bridgewater College (VA).

Ahing, who played at Western Carolina as a freshman, was even-par for the 36 holes on the par threes and one-under on the par fives.   Her eight birdies were twice the number of anyone else in the field.

She attributed her success to lots of work, good swing thoughts and ball placement over the two rounds.

"It was great accomplishing something for your school and for yourself," she said in a phone call later.

With the greens much harder and playing faster on Tuesday, Coach Herb Pike was proud of the way all three of his players competed.  He is expecting to be able to post a team score in the next tournament with sophomore Lindsay McAulay rejoining the team for the Gannon University Invitational on March 10-11 at Beacon Ridge Country Club in West End.
