Sophomore Katie Ochoa shot rounds of 82-86-168 and finished in 15th place to lead the Sandhills Community College women's golf team at the Cutter Creek Women's Golf Invitational.

Mount Olive finished in first place followed by Lander University, Barton and Sandhills. Johanna Andersson of Mount Olive earned medalist honors with scores of 75-74-149 on the 5,864 yard, par 72 layout. The tournament hosted by Barton College was held on Monday and Tuesday in Snow Hill.

Also competing for the Lady Flyers were sophomores Taylor Pratte and Lindsay McCauley, and freshman Gracie Church. Pratte finished with rounds of 93-93-186 and Church posted scores of 89-102-191.

Next for Coach Herb Pike's squad is the Myrtle Beach Invitational on September 30-October 1.

Ochoa was a three-time all-conference selection at Pinecrest High School and a member of their 2016 state championship squad as well as the 2017 team that was the state runner-up. A nursing major, she competed in eight tournaments as a member Belmont Abbey golf team last fall and spring before transferring to Sandhills.

Pratte, a biology major, is the lone returnee from  the squad that finished in 15th place at the NJCAA National Championship in Daytona Beach in May . McCauley is a nursing major from Green Hope, and Church, a biology major, was the conference player of the year for Hibriten High School in Lenior last fall.
