Ou and Mirovich Lead Lady Flyers at NJCAA Women's National Golf Championship in Florida

Sophomore Shirley Ou led Sandhills Community College with a 19th place finish at the rain-shortened NJCAA Women's Golf Championship that concluded on Thursday in Daytona Beach, FL.

The Lady Flyers finished in 15th place in the tournament won by Seminole State College of Sanford, FL. The medalist was Worapitcha Anudit of Seminole State after rounds of 70-72-71- 213 on the LPGA International Hills Course.

The tournament was reduced from 72 to 54 holes as a result of Monday morning thunderstorms that washed out the opening round.

Sophomore Danielle Mirovich was in a tie for eighth place individually after an opening-round 78 on Tuesday and the Flyers were ninth in the team standings. Their second round score was 40 strokes higher and they finished the 54 holes at 362-402-379-1143.

Seminole State posted scores of 300-297-303-900 to win by 23 strokes over defending champion Daytona State in the field of 19 teams and 127 golfers.

Ou, who earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors with a 14th place finish a year ago, played with an injured left wrist taped up. She posted scores of 84-80-81-245. All-American recognition goes to the top 18 and ties. Mirovich tied for 36th place after rounds of 78-90-87-255.

Also for Coach Herb Pike's squad, freshman Taylor Pratte posted scores of 98-108-93-299 and tied for 98th place. Sophomore Alicia Dunlap finished 124th after rounds of 102-124-118-344.

"It was a difficult golf course," Pike said. "It was a fun time and we got to go to the beach. I think they all enjoyed it."

Donna Andrews, who has been working with the Lady Flyers as a teaching professional since 2012, finished in a tie for 14th place at the U.S. Senior Women's Open at Pine Needles that ended on Sunday. Her even-par 71 was one of six rounds of par or better in the final round.

Andrews posted scores of 78-75-74-71-298. Pike and Pratte were among the members of the team that watched the tournament won by Helen Alfredsson.
