Lady Flyers Complete Spring Campaign on High Note - Prepare for Nationals Next Month in Florida

Lady Flyers Complete Spring Campaign on High Note - Prepare for Nationals Next Month in Florida

College career-best 18-hole scores by sophomores Danielle Mirovich and Alicia Dunlap highlighted an overall positive performance by the Sandhills Community College women's golf team at the Region X Championship held at Legacy Golf Links on Monday and Tuesday.

Sophomore Shirley Ou posted her best 18 and 36 hole scores of the spring campaign to earn medalist honors after rounds of 78-74-152. Mirovich shot 82-76-158 to finish second and Dunlap was fourth after rounds of 90-89-179.

The Flyer team score of 349-331-680, a 2018-19 season low, also included rounds of 99-92-191 by freshman Taylor Pratte.

Coach Herb Pike's squad was unopposed team-wise. Wake Tech, USC-Sumter and Spartanburg Methodist had players competing as individuals, but did not have the four players required to compete as a team.

The tournament was the final competition for the Lady Flyers before the NJCAA Women's Golf Championship at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, FL on May 13-16.

"I was really proud of Shirley, Danielle and Alicia," Pike said. "Shooting an 82 on Monday in the wind was good for Danielle and she shot 38-38-76 today. Alicia has really worked hard on her short game."

Dunlap's rounds were both more than 10 strokes better than her season average. Pratte was coming off a season-best performance the week before at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.

The Lady Flyers finished 10th out of 20 teams and Ou earned honorable mention All-American honors after finishing in 14th place at last years national tournament held in Mesa Arizona.
