Lady Flyers Golfers Wrap First Tourney

The SCC women's golf team kicked off the Fall 2016 season at the Cutter Creek Invitational hosted by Barton College in Snow Hill, NC, Monday and Tuesday. The lady Flyers first tournament was highlighted by freshman Parker Watson's 23rd place finish as well as fellow frosh Danielle Washburn's hole in one on the par 3 15th hole Tuesday. All four members of the Flyers golf squad were participating in college action for the first time.

Watson enjoyed the first for her and her team, "I thought the tournament was a great way to start the season because of the good competition we had playing with us. It felt great knowing we were prepared and ready to compete on such a high level. I was definitely nervous but very excited. None of us played our best but we were pleased in the end because we worked hard and had good attitudes."

Parker Watson paced the Flyers both days improving two strokes in her final round to card 82, 80 - 162 for the tournament. Danielle Washburn shot 83, 89 -172 to finish 37th in the 59 player field.

When asked about her hole in one Washburn shared, "Before I hit my tee shot I just did my routine, made sure I visualized where I wanted to hit it and then just tried to put a good swing on it. When it went in I couldn't really believe it. It was pretty surreal. I jumped up, went and hugged coach, hugged my mom and dad. A very cool moment for me."

Rounding out SCC's scoring were Amanda Hill (92, 93 - 185) and Tala Locklear (109, 100 - 209). The Flyers competed against all four year institutions and will follow up with The Eagles Cup. The tournament was recently added to the Fall slate and will include competition between NJCAA teams at Eagle Ridge GC hosted by Wake Teach. Returning Sophomore Sarah Phelan will rejoin the team at the Eagles Cup. Watson added, "I know all of the team had a great time and we are excited for our next event."

The ladies have a full Fall slate with six events highlighted by the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate October 3 and 4th at Lion's Paw.
