Sandhills Golfers Lead the Pack Heading into Final Round of NJCAA National Championship

Chautauqua, NY – After three days of intense competition at the NJCAA National Championship, the Sandhills Community College golf team stands at the pinnacle of the leaderboard with a commanding 33-stroke lead over their nearest competitors, Georgia Military College. The Flyers, showcasing exceptional consistency and resilience, have posted rounds of 291, 280, and 282 for an impressive cumulative score of 853, 11 under par.

Team Performance Highlights:

  • Sandhills Community College: 291 - 280 - 282 = 853 (-11)
  • Georgia Military College: 300 - 291 - 295 = 886 (+22)
  • DuPage CC: 300 - 304 - 310 = 914 (+50)

The Flyers have demonstrated remarkable depth and skill, particularly in rounds two and three, where they shot 280 and 282, respectively. Their performance has been characterized by consistency and notable individual improvements.

Individual Standouts:

  1. Daniel Aitken: Leading the individual scores, Aitken has been a model of steadiness with rounds of 69, 70, and 72, totaling 211 (-5). His consistent play has kept him at the forefront of the championship.

  2. Ben Read: Just one stroke behind Aitken, Read has shown a remarkable upward trajectory with scores of 73, 69, and 70, for a total of 212 (-4). His second-round 69 was instrumental in boosting the team's standing.

  3. Watcharakan Chankarn: Another standout for Sandhills, Chankarn made a significant leap in the second round, shooting a 69 after an initial 77, and following it with a solid 71. His total stands at 217 (+1), securing the fourth spot individually.

  4. Liam Harris: Harris has been consistent with rounds of 74, 72, and 75, aggregating a score of 221 (+5) and tying for seventh place.

  5. Landon Cabingas: Making a remarkable comeback in the third round, Cabingas shot an impressive 69, a notable improvement from his previous rounds of 75 and 81. His overall score is 225 (+9), placing him 11th.
