Damien Robinson Leads Flyers to Eighth Victory in a Row

Damien Robinson powered his way inside to score 13 of his team's final 15 points, leading the Sandhills Community College basketball team to an 85-75 victory over Camp Community College in Franklin, VA on Sunday afternoon.
The last of his team-high 21 points, to go with 14 rebounds, produced the 1,000th point of the sophomore's Flyers career. Coach Mike Apple's squad improved to 6-1 in Region 10 and 21-6 overall with its eighth consecutive victory.
The Flyers complete Region 10 regular season play with a 6 p.m. game at Patrick and Henry (5-1 and 13-8) in Martinsville, VA at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A Flyers win would clinch the conference regular season title and the first seed for the Region 10 tournament to be held at Patrick and Henry the following week.
Trailing 27-23 in the first half, a three by Jacob Grantham, followed by a three-point play by Mylon Campbell, sparked a rally that led to a 45-35 lead at the intermission. The teams mostly traded baskets early in the second half until the Hurricanes rallied to take a 66-63 lead.
A pair of free throws by Mike Fee helped the Flyers get going again, leading up to Robinson's game-deciding spree.
Others scoring in double figures for the Flyers included Kendall Smith with 13 points and Isaiah Upchurch with 12. The Flyers converted a tidy 27 of 36 free throw attempts.
Region 10 Standings: Sandhills 6-1 (21-6), Patrick and Henry 5-1 (13-8), Virginia Peninsula 3-3 (12-7), Camp 3-4 (10-11) and Emory Oxford 0-8 (10-14).
