The Sandhills Community College volleyball team took down the Central Carolina Community College Cougars on Tuesday by a 3-0 sweep. The ninth-ranked Lady Flyers improved to 15-8 overall and 4-1 in Region 10 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 1-8 and 0-4. This was the second meeting between the two, with the Flyers winning the first by a sweep as well.

Coach Alicia Riggan was unable to be at the game due to a personal matter, so Assistant Coach Holly Mandeville stepped in as the team's head coach.

"The team came out and decided they were going to play for her and her family, and I feel like they did that," said Mandeville.

Tuesday was the team's annual Pink Out night where players honor those with breast cancer. The team wore pink uniforms and fans packed The Hangar wearing pink as well.

"Everyone also chose to play for someone they knew who was a breast cancer survivor, or in the middle of going through chemo or radiation," said Mandeville.  "The team's mindset was if they ever went down, to remember who they were playing for."

Defensive specialist Nicole Lambert was the team's leader in digs with 14, followed by libero Lainey Mullins with 12. Outside hitter Dajsha Fields was dominant at the net, leading the team with 10 kills. Setter Sydney Garner led the team with 15 assists, while Emma Brown topped the team with five service aces.

The Hangar was packed on Tuesday night, and fans are a huge part of the game for the Flyers. They feed off of the support of the crowd, and the cheering from the fans really adds to the intensity of the game.

"We really feed off of our crowd," said Mandeville. "It's really been awesome to see everyone so hyped at the games."

Come back and support your Lady Flyers on Saturday, as they take on Caldwell Community College at 11 a.m. and Denmark Technical College at 3 p.m. The No. 5 ranked Cobras, are the Region 10 leaders with a 3-0 conference and 16-4 overall record. Division I Denmark is 0-6 overall. These are the final regular season home games of the season, as well as Sophomore Day, so come show your support for the Lady Flyers who will be playing their final games in The Hangar.
