Outside/Rightside Brooke Anne Fryar Commits to Lady Flyers
Sandhills Community College Coach Alicia Riggan liked what she saw in Brooke Anne Fryar when her Ronald Reagan High School team competed against favored Pinecrest in a first round state playoff volleyball match last October.
Pinecrest, then 25-1, defeated the team from Pfafftown in a five-set thriller that wasn't decided until the 21st point. The Raiders of the Central Piedmont 4A Conference completed their season with a record of 15-13 under Coach Doug Balser.
"We were immediately interested in her natural ability," Riggan said of the 5-foot-9 outside hitter/right-side. "She has a heavy arm swing and was very aggressive with her placement.
"I love that she wants the ball in tight situations and we saw that with the game at Pinecrest."
The daughter of Brooke Fryar and Chandra Stevens began playing volleyball in the eight grade and spent three seasons with the Champion Volleyball Club in Winston-Salem. She plans to major in general education at Sandhills.
Fryar is the fourth incoming freshman to commit to the Lady Flyers for next season. She indicated she selected Sandhills because of the interest shown in her as a player and because of how close the team is with each other.
