North Moore Middle Blocker Alexus McCrimmon is First 2019 Lady Flyer Commit

North Moore Middle Blocker Alexus McCrimmon is First 2019 Lady Flyer Commit

Sandhills Community College volleyball signee Alexus McCrimmon should feel right at home when she plays in her first match at the Hangar next August.

Along with her parents Nelson and Gwen McCrimmon, the 5-foot-9 two-time all-conference middle blocker from North Moore High School watched her brother Malik play for the Flyers' basketball team during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

She has also been a frequent spectator at volleyball games the past two years when former North Moore teammates Kiana Brown, Tee'Ashia Lilly and Jordan Ward were members of the Lady Flyers squad.

"I watched them play multiple times and just felt that I would be a good fit for the team," McCrimmon said while attending a Flyers' basketball game last week. "I'm looking forward to being a part of a new team and a new environment, and to work hard and maybe get a chance to play at a higher level after Sandhills."

The opportunity is there to play an important role on next year's team. Sophomores Lilly and Ward were the middle blockers on this year's squad that finished the season with a record of 24-5.

"I'll try every day at practice to stay focused and work hard so I can earn my spot on the team," she said.

Coach Alicia Riggan, who is also a North Moore graduate, already considers her first 2019 recruit a part of the Flyer family. McCrimmon attended the Lady Flyers' camp this summer and is acquainted with the team's three freshmen. Her coach at North Moore was Crystal Hicks.

"We're really excited to get Alexus," Riggan said. "We're graduating both middles and her height and knowledge of the game are going to be real beneficial for us. From what I've heard from Coach Hicks as well, I think we're getting a great addition."

According to Hicks, McCrimmon is an all-around student/athlete who was her leader and go-to player on the court.

"I knew if I wanted to get something done in the games all I had to do was tell Lex and she would make it happen or try her best to make it happen," Hicks said. "Lex is a leader off the court as well.  She is always trying to figure out what more she can do to be a better student in the classroom and how to be a better captain to her teammates. I look forward to seeing what Lex will do at SCC. Go Flyers!"

Following her two years at Sandhills, McCrimmon plans to continue her education in pursuit of a career as a physical therapist. Her brother Malik is currently attending Western Carolina University.
