Lady Flyers Advance to Saturday's District Semi-Finals Seeking a Spot in the Natonal Tournament
A split of its two matches in Friday's pool play has advanced the Sandhills Community College volleyball team into one of Saturday's semi-final matches at the NJCAA Division III District I/J Tournament.
Ranked No. 10 this week, the Lady Flyers defeated Anne Arundel (MD) 25-7, 25-15 and 25-18 in their first match of the afternoon held at Butler County CC in Butler, PA. Later they were swept 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16 by No. 1 ranked Owens CC (OH).
The Flyers (24-4) will face Lorain CC of Elyria, Ohio (21-11) at 10 a.m. in one semi-final match. At the same time on another court Owens (35-6) will meet Butler County (20-5).
The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Both the winner and runner-up will be among the 12 teams qualifying for the National Championship tournament in Rochester, Minn. on November 8-10.
Tee'Ashia Lilly and Lilli Inman were each credited with a team-high eight kills in the win over Anne Arundel. Other statistical leaders were Abby Wallace with 34 assists, Shaedyn Housh with 17 digs and Rachael Mashburn with seven service aces.
Inman had six kills and Lilly and Mashburn has five apiece in the loss to Owens. Wallace logged 18 assists and Housh was credited with 14 digs.
