Lady Flyers Fall in Semi-Final Round of Dragon Invitational
The Sandhills Community College volleyball team held a 2-1 lead before losing in five sets to Potomac State in one of Sunday's semi-final matches of the Dragon Invitational in Columbia, MD.
The Lady Flyers swept CC of Rhode Island 25-15, 25-11 and 25-13 and Harford CC (MD) 25-13, 25-20 and 25-22 on Saturday. They eased by host Howard CC 25-3, 25-6 and 25-7 on Sunday to win Pool 1 before losing 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 11-15 to Potomac State (WV), the Pool 2 runner-up.
Later Sunday, Montgomery CC (MD) defeated Potomac State 25-21, 25-14 and 25-16 in a match between Division II, Region XX squads for the tournament title.
Setter Abby Wallace and middle blocker Tee'Ashia Lilly were all-tournament team selections for the Lady Flyers. Wallace was credited with 42 assists and 14 digs in the semi-final match. Lilly contributed 12 kills and five digs, and led the team with 34 kills for the tournament.
Coach Alicia Riggan's squad takes a 5-3 record into Wednesday's 6 p.m. Faculty/Staff Night clash against Division II USC Lancaster (2-0).
