Lady Flyers tied With Patrick Henry at Top of Region X Standings
The Sandhills Community College volleyball team won both matches at Danville Area CC Saturday afternoon and moved into a tie for first place in Region X with Patrick Henry CC.
The Lady Flyers (10-4 overall) and Patrick Henry (10-2) both go into this week with identical conference records of 5-0. They won't meet each either until October 15 when they play two matches in Martinsville, Va.
Guilford Tech (1-8) provides the opposition for the Flyers on Monday in a 6 p.m. non-conference affair at Heins Gymnasium. They swept the Titans on the road 10 days ago.
The Flyers had a total of 30 service aces in the two matches against Danville. Holly Martindale had six and Morgan McCarthy five as they swept the Jaguars 26-24, 25-11 and 25-21 in Saturday afternoon's first contest.
Leah Salzwedel was credited with 32 assists and Paige Garner and Chandler Adams were the leaders in kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Garner had four solo blocks and Erica Groff and Adams each contributed 11 digs.
Salzwedel served for eight aces to go with 40 more assists as the Flyers prevailed 25-15, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-9 in the second match. Garner notched 15 kills and Adams had 12. Groff was credited with 22 digs.
Coach Alicia Riggan's squad takes an eight match winning streak into this week and has dropped only three sets over that stretch.
