Region X Champion Flyers All Tuned Up For Saturday's National Championships

Saturday's Region X Cross Country Championships didn't turn out to be much more than a training run for the Sandhills men's and women's cross country teams that travel to Massachusetts for the national meet later this week.

Spartanburg Methodist College hosted the Region X championships for Divisions I and III at Milliken Park. Led by sophomore Daniel Taylor, the Flyer men took four of the first five places in finishing ahead of Patrick Henry CC, the only other team in the Division III field.

Sophomore Enya Dewars finished first for a Lady Flyers squad that ran unopposed.

The season concludes with the Division III National Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. on Saturday. Currently ranked No. 3 in Division III, the Flyer men finished third on the same course a year ago as Taylor came in second individually.

The Lady Flyers came into this week ranked eighth and also finished eighth at last year's national meet.

"We used it as a tune-up run because we have bigger fish to fry," Flyers' coach Jef Moody said of the Region X meet.  "Everybody came out feeling good, nobody is hurt and nobody is tired. 

"We'll just do some tuning up on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, hop in the van on Thursday and jog the course on Friday. If we can go there and race, and not be concerned about our times, we'll do fine.

Harper College of Palatine, IL is the defending men's and women's champion.
