Flyers use Second Half to Rally Past RedHawks
The 5th-ranked Sandhills Community College Flyers used a second half rally to take down Division II Catawba Valley Community College on the road Thursday night 98-87. With the win the Flyers continue their hot start to the season and improve to 5-0 on the season
Both sides traded basket for basket early in the game with the Red Hawks pulling away with the slight 10-7 lead. Catawba Valley retook the lead and extended it to 31-23 and held off a late Flyers rally to take a 51-47 lead into halftime.
The second half saw the Flyers start out fast tying the game up at 54-54 before the Red Hawks got things rolling again until the Flyers once again tied it up at 67-67 with a made free throw shot giving them the 68-67 lead thanks to Mylon Campbell. From there the game turned in favor of the Flyers as they held onto the lead the rest of the way en route to the win.
Damien Robinson led the way for the Flyers with an 18 point, 12 rebounds, one assist and two block performance. Xavion White provided a spark off the bench for the Flyers, coming away with 16 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Isaiah Upchurch finished the night with 14 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
