The Sandhills Community College basketball team was defeated 98-73 by Dallas College – North Lake in one of Thursday's NJCAA Division III quarterfinal games in Herkimer, NY.
The No. 9 seeded Flyers (24-10) are back in action at noon on Friday in a consolation bracket game against No. 4 Montgomery County CC of Blue Bell, PA (27-2). The Mustangs were defeated 88-60 by Brookdale CC, NJ in one of Thursday's other quarterfinal contests.
A win on Friday would put Coach Mike Apple's squad in a game for fifth place at noon on Saturday.
No. 1 seeded Dallas-Northlake (27-4) has a 5 p.m. date with No. 5 Brookdale (28-1) in one of Friday's semi-final games.
Sparked by a pair of threes, and eight early points by Jamori McDougald, the Flyers trailed 11-10 after the first 3:30 of action. They closed what was later a double-digit deficit to 26-19 midway through the first half on a three-point play by Damien Robinson. Then the Flyers 16 first half turnovers, that led to 17 points for the Blazers, began taking their toll on the way to what proved to be an insurmountable 50-29 deficit at the intermission.
McDougald finished with 22 points to lead the Flyers. Robinson contributed 14 to go with nine rebounds. The Blazers had six players in double figures led by Jakob Zenon with 17 points.
