Sandhills Eases By New River on Day One of Flyer Invitational

All 16 Sandhills Flyers that saw action made it into the scoring column in Friday's 139-57 victory over New River CC at the Hangar.

Seven of them scored in double figures led by Tavarus Peterson with 15 points. Donnie Haith contributed a dozen, Chase Morrisette-Barnett, Niem Ratliff, and Sayaun Dent each added 11, and Damauri Sexton and Holt Walker were credited with 10 apiece.

The Flyers, now 2-3, connected on 64.8 per cent of their shots from the field, including 13-for 25 on attempts from beyond the arc.

The game was part of the two-day Flyer Invitational. Earlier, Oxford College of Emory University (4-0) defeated Central Carolina CC (0-4) 81-79. Saturday's schedule has Central Carolina meeting New River at 1 p.m. followed by Sandhills and Oxford Emory of Oxford, GA at 3 p.m.

Sexton scored seven points in a row during one stretch as the home team jumped out to a 27-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Evan Davis, who led the Flyers in rebounds with 11, combined with another freshman, Delton Davis, to account for 10 of the last 14 points on the way to a 64-18 lead at the intermission.

The Flyers reached the century mark on a three by Peterson that made it 100-36 with 9:15 remaining in the game.  Peterson scored 10 points in the second half and Haith and Ratliff added nine apiece.

Freshman Cameron Williams was the only Flyer to log as many as 20 minutes of action in the game.  He finished with four points, eight rebounds and two assists. Haith and Ratliff were the assist leaders with four apiece. Xavier Grissett blocked four shots.

The Flyers scored 52 points off 32 turnovers by the Muskies from Dublin, VA.
