The Sandhills Community College Flyers beach volleyball team took to the sands on Saturday for a sophomore day doubleheader against Spartanburg Methodist College and Liberty University. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the Lady Flyers faced tough competition, resulting in a 0-2 outcome for the day.

Saturday marked a special occasion for the team as they celebrated Sophomore Day, honoring the dedication and hard work of the second-year players. The sophomores, including Emma Brown, Alyssa Maragelis, Olivia Barlowe, Dajsha Fields, Ny'Asia McKinnon, and Alexis Hinson, were recognized for their contributions over the past two seasons.

Reflecting on her experience, Alexis Hinson shared, "At Fairmont, there's no sand at all, so freshman year, learned it, sophomore year, loved it. This program's really meant so much to me these past two seasons."

The day began with an encounter against Spartanburg Methodist College, who conceded two pairs due to limited numbers. Despite the disadvantage, the Pioneers were able to secure wins over the remaining three pairs and took the match 3-2.

"Communication is definitely really important," emphasized Bradford. "You've really got to trust your partner, and luckily I've got a great partner like Emma, and she's really easy to communicate with."

Following a brief interlude, the Lady Flyers faced off against Liberty University. Despite their best efforts, the team faced a tough challenge, with four pairs falling in two sets and Hinson and Maragelis narrowly losing a three-set match.

"We're practicing hard, and just trying to take care of our bodies these last few weeks as the season is wrapping up," remarked Bradford.

Looking ahead, the Lady Flyers are gearing up for their next challenge as they travel to Laurinburg to take on St. Andrews University in a doubleheader, marking the regular season finale. The Flyers will be seeking redemption, aiming to overturn their previous 0-2 record against St. Andrews. In a pair of games two weeks ago, the Knights topped the Flyers by scores or 4-1 and 3-2.
