Lady Flyers Sign Stephanie Harrell to Play Beach Volleyball
Stephanie Harrell, a senior at South Johnston High School, has committed to play beach volleyball at Sandhills Community College next season.
A member of the Carolina Shockwave Volleyball Club in Goldsboro, the 5-foot-5 defensive specialist did not play for a high school team. She has been playing volleyball since she was in the seventh grade.
The daughter of Kristina and Steven Harrell plans to major in criminal justice-forensic science. A sister, Sabrina, also attended the signing.
Harrell indicated she received a warm welcome from the Lady Flyers coaches and felt the situation was completely right for her. She is looking forward to learning the sport of beach volleyball while excelling academically.
At South Johnston, Harrell has qualified for A/B Honor Roll each year. As a member of her club team she received awards for Most Tenacity, Most Improved Player and Player of the Month. She has also served as an assistant volleyball coach at Benson Middle School.
"We are excited to have Stephanie join our Beach Volleyball Program," Head Coach Alicia Riggan said. "We think with her awesome attitude she will make the adjustment to sand smoothly. We are looking forward to next season."
