Flyers Finish Region Play Perfect, Celebrate Sophomore Day with Back-to-Back Sweeps

The Sandhills Community College Flyers capped off a dominant weekend with a pair of straight-set victories—defeating Patrick & Henry Community College 3-0 on Friday in Martinsville, Va., and sweeping USC Lancaster 3-0 on Saturday in front of their home crowd for Sophomore Day. Saturday's gameday sponsor AC Sandhills Volleyball's players and coaches provided a loud cheering force and a great environment for the Flyers. 

Friday's win over Patrick & Henry secured a perfect 6-0 record in Region 10 play, earning Sandhills the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 10 Tournament. The Flyers controlled the match from start to finish, winning by scores of 25-10, 25-14, and 25-9.

Offensively, Sandhills hit an impressive .273 as a team. Sophomore Katelyn Bunting led the attack with eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage, while Brooke Emore and Taylor Miller each added seven and five kills, respectively. Setter Averi Cuddeback guided the offense with 16 assists and three service aces, while Jacque Holden sparked the Flyers' serving game with four aces of her own. Defensively, Olivia Rosy anchored the back row with 13 digs as the Flyers limited the Patriots to minimal offensive rhythm.

Returning home Saturday, the Flyers celebrated their five sophomores—Jacque Holden, Reagan Smith, Julia Porter, Megan Robinson, and Katelyn Bunting—with a strong 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-13, 25-18) over USC Lancaster.

After a tight opening set, Sandhills settled in behind balanced hitting and strong serving to close out the match in convincing fashion. Emore led all hitters with nine kills and a .368 percentage, while Smith contributed five kills and two blocks. Bunting and Madison Scheffler chipped in with steady play at the net, combining for seven total blocks. Cuddeback again steered the offense with 15 assists and a service ace, and Giannie Small and Bunting each added two aces to round out a well-rounded team effort.

With the pair of sweeps, Sandhills improves to 29-2 as they head to the final two games of the regular season.

The Region 10 Tournament has been relocated to Sandhills Community College and will take place Saturday, October 25. The semifinal schedule is as follows:

• 11:00 AM – Semifinal #1: Sandhills (No. 1 seed) vs. No. 4 seed

• 1:00 PM – Semifinal #2: No. 2 seed vs. No. 3 seed

• 3:00 PM – Championship Match: Winners of the semifinal matches

The Region 10 Champion will advance to the District Championship, hosted by Region 20 the following weekend.
