Flyers Add Clayton and Porter to 2024 Class

Mariana Clayton brings 11 years of volleyball experience to Sandhills Community College as a versatile Setter-DS-Libero. In addition to club volleyball, Mariana competed in basketball and volleyball for her homeschool league. Clayton boasts awards like the Carolina Mustang MVP and multiple offensive and defensive awards. Engaged in community service, she worked with the Holt Athletic Association, coached at North Durham Volleyball Club, and assisted the Leasburg Fire Department. Mariana plans to major in Athletic Training, choosing SCC for its competitive program and cost-effectiveness. Excited about SCC's high-level coaching and caring atmosphere, she looks forward to pushing her athletic limits.

Julia Porter, a 5'10" outside/middle hitter, joins the Sandhills Community College Flyers with six years of volleyball experience. She played for the North Durham Volleyball Club Heat and White Cross Elite. Homeschooled, Julia competed in soccer and basketball, earning All-Conference honors for Durham Flight volleyball two times and was recognized as the Heat's MVP. Porter is pursuing a major in Fine Arts and Business. She was drawn to SCC for its sense of unity. Julia is excited about playing her favorite sport in a collegiate setting and potentially competing in beach volleyball for the Flyers as well.

Flyers Head Coach Alicia Riggan says "We are excited to welcome Mariana and Julia to the Flyer Family. It's always a pleasure when you can bring two young ladies that have been playing together to the same program. Mariana will be a great asset to our back line and Julia will be a great addition to the front line. We like to run a fast offense and both of these young ladies will transition smoothly."
