Flyers Earn Split in Saturday Double-header

The Lady Flyers traveled to Pitt Community College on Saturday, where they faced the Pitt Bulldogs in a double header and earned a split. The Bulldogs took the first match 3-1, but the Flyers were able to even it up by winning the second match 3-1. The split moves the Flyers to 14-8 on the season. 

Pitt took the first game 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20. Middle hitters Dajsha Fields and Cassidy Jewett tied as the Flyers' leaders in kills in game one, with nine apiece. Libero Lainey Mullins' 18 digs were the most on the team, followed by setter Sydney Garner with 14. Garner and sophomore Lannah Huneycutt paced the Flyers in assists with 15 each. Huneycutt also contributed two aces from the service line. 

The Flyers took the second game 25-15, 25-12, 21-25, 25-21. Jewett once again was the team's leader with 13 kills, followed closely by outside hitter Caroline Bradford with 12. Mullins led the team with 24 digs and Garner's 26 assists were the most on the team. Middle hitter Ny'Asia McKinnon led the team's defense with two blocks, while Fields, Huneycutt, and Ellie Everhart all contributed one apiece.  

The Flyers return to the Hangar on Tuesday, where they will take on the Central Carolina Community College Cougars. Tuesday's game is Pink Out Night for the Flyers, so be sure to wear your pink to The Hangar. The Flyers took the previous matchup between the two by a 3-0 sweep, and the Cougars come into Tuesday's game 2-7.
