Cobras Top Flyers in Nationally Ranked Showdown

In an anticipated matchup between two top-ranked teams, the Sandhills Community College Flyers took on the Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Cobras in Hudson, NC on Friday afternoon. Sandhills, ranked fifth nationally entering the game lost in three sets to the 13th ranked Cobras.

From the first serve, both teams displayed their prowess on the court, making it a hard-fought contest. Caldwell got the edge in the first set, winning 25-21 and ending on a 5-1 scoring run after the Flyers took a 21-20 lead. The second set was a closely contested affair, but the Cougars managed to secure it with a score of 25-18.

The Flyers showed their resilience and refused to go down without a fight in the third set. The Flyers were led offensively by Caroline Bradford's 9 kills and Dajsha Fields' 7 kills. However, the Caldwell defense, anchored by Emily Ramirez's 17 digs and Catherine Pate's 13 kills, proved to be the difference-maker. In the end, Caldwell clinched the set and the match with a final score of 25-21.

Despite the loss, the Sandhills Flyers showed grit and determination throughout the game, with Lainey Mullins contributing 13 digs, and Sydney Garner dishing out 14 assists.

These two programs will meet again on October 7th, 2023, when the Flyers will have the home-court advantage. This week Sandhills will hit the road, facing Central Carolina Community College on Tuesday night in Sanford at 6 pm and Wake Technical Community College on Thursday night in Raleigh at 6 pm. Fans can catch them back at home for two games on Saturday beginning with an 11am contest against Patrick and Henry followed by a 3pm match up with USC Sumter. Saturday is "Camp Day" for the Flyers and all summer volleyball camp attendees will be admitted free of charge and recognized during the game.
