Lady Flyers Drop Heartbreaker to Wake Tech

The No. 5 ranked in NJCAA Division III Sandhills Community College volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to the Wake Tech Eagles on Tuesday evening at The Hangar.

The Lady Flyers took the first two sets before the Eagles mounted a comeback to hand the home team a 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-27 and 13-15 loss. The Flyers dropped to 5-4 on the season while the Eagles improved to 2-1.

Coach Alicia Riggan's squad returns to action on Friday with matches at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. against Cleveland Community College In Shelby, NC. The two teams split an exciting double match at The Hangar back on August 18 with both games decided in five sets.

Setter Sydney Garner led the Lady Flyers on Tuesday in both service aces with five and assists with 32. Dajsha Fields and Caroline Bradford were the team's top kill-getters, with 11 and 10, respectively. Additionally, Lainey Mullins led the team with 29 digs, and Ny'Asia McKinnon was the leader in blocks, with four.

Despite the unfavorable outcome for the Lady Flyers, The Hangar was rocking again with a good crowd on hand, including a new student section and support provided by members of the Flyers basketball team.

The Flyers begin a long road stand, playing only three home games in the entire month of September. They will meet Wake Tech again on September 21 in Raleigh. The next game at The Hangar is on September 12, when the Flyers welcome Davidson-Davie Community College.
