Flyers Dominant in Win Over Lenoir Community College

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team secured a commanding 3-0 victory against the Lenoir Community College Lancers on Tuesday in the Hangar. The Flyers maintained momentum, triumphing in all three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-15. "It's a really good feeling to put a team down in three sets. We've been in a rut where we take it to five sets and it can be really discouraging" expressed Sydney Garner.

Garner was a standout Tuesday, leading the team with 25 assists and contributing 10 digs. Only Lainey Mullins surpassed her with 16 digs. Coach Alicia Riggan commented, "Sydney Garner just took the reins tonight and ran the show. She's our quarterback, she's putting the ball where she wants and the hitters are putting it down." Garner added, " I think we did a really great job communicating tonight. Everyone on the team is really starting to learn their roles."

During the match, the team transitioned to a 5-1 rotation utilizing one setter, with Garner taking on the role for the evening. Dajsha Fields and Caroline Bradford led the team in kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Fields also led in blocks, securing three, while Ny'Asia McKinnon followed with two.

Several Flyers are making their mark on the NJCAA leaderboards. Fields holds the sixth position and Bradford ranks eighth in kills. Garner claims the third spot in assists, while Mullins occupies fourth place in digs. Additionally, Cassidy Jewett secures the fourth rank and McKinnon holds fifth place in block solos.

Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for Friday and Saturday's Flyers Invitational. The Flyers will host Mid Atlantic Christian University, Johnson and Wales University, and USC Lancaster in the two day event. They will face Mid Atlantic Christian University at 12 p.m. on Friday and later take on Johnson and Wales University at 4 p.m. On Saturday the Flyers will have a 12 p.m. match-up with USC Lancaster. These games against two four-year institutions and a strong USC Lancaster team are expected to test the Flyers and present another early season challenge.
