Lady Flyers' L'Asia Jackson Named Division III Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

After helping the Sandhills Community College volleyball team wrap up the Region 10 regular season title with three wins in a row, L'Asia Jackson has been named the NJCAA Division III Defensive Player of the Week.

The Lady Flyer libero was credited with 75 digs during a week that included sweeps over Region 10 opponents Central Carolina CC, Rockingham CC and Patrick Henry CC.

Ranked No. 10 in this week's Division III national rankings, Coach Alicia Riggan's squad takes a record of 9-0 in Region 10 and 17-11 overall into Saturday's tri-match at The Hangar.

The Sophomore Day action begins at 11 a.m. with the final conference match of the season against Caldwell Tech. Caldwell Tech and Davidson -Davie CC play each other at 1 p.m. followed by the Lady Flyers and the Storm at 3 p.m.

"I'm excited and proud of Asia for receiving this honor," Riggan said today. "She works so hard on the court and off the court.

"This is the first time in Flyer history that a libero has gotten this award. She currently leads our region in digs and digs per set and is third for aces."

A product of Pinecrest High School, Jackson earned Region 10 first team honors as a freshman. Her 448 digs this season are the 8th most in Division III.
