Lady Flyers Fall to Wildcats in Charlotte

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team was defeated 16-25, 22-25 and 22-25 by Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte on Friday.

The Lady Flyers dropped to 6-7 with their second loss of the season to the Wildcats, now 6-5.

Following a one-sided first set, Coach Alicia Riggan's squad challenged for the lead late in both of the final two. In the first meeting between the teams two weeks ago at The Hangar, the Wildcats prevailed 3-1.

Statistical leaders included JaLasia Ray with seven kills, Abby Quick with 13 digs and Lannah Huneycutt with 12 assists and 10 digs.

The Lady Flyers will play their seventh and eighth road matches in a row when they travel to Wake Tech on Tuesday and Guilford Tech on Thursday. Both are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The next home date is part of a tri-match next Saturday. Sophomore Day begins with the Flyers facing Patrick Henry CC at 11 a.m. in their Region 10 opener.

Patrick Henry meets Louisburg College at 1 p.m. followed by the Lady Flyers versus Louisburg at 3 p.m.

A meet and greet will be held for any high school seniors interested in playing volleyball on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

Saturday's activities on campus also include the Flyers Fun Rock and Run 5K , beginning at 9 a.m.  Over 160 runners/walkers are already signed up to run on the course the begins on the SCC campus and winds through Southern Pines Reservoir Park.
