Lady Flyers Sweep the Hurricanes for Win No. 14

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team improved to 14-3 with a 25-12, 25-18 and 25-23 victory at Louisburg College on Thursday.

Carley Modlin led the Lady Flyers with nine kills, three solo blocks and three service aces. Setter Camryn Lowe was credited with 25 assists and Libero Mariah Daffron was the leader in digs with 20.

The Hurricanes dropped to 5-8 after a match that does not count in the Region 10 standings.

The remainder of the regular season schedule includes three home matches next week. Coach Alicia Riggan's squad entertains Patrick Henry CC on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Central Carolina CC at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Sophomore Night) in non-conference matches.

Fayetteville Tech will provide the opposition on Friday at 6 p.m. The outcome of that match could determine the Lady Flyers' seeding for the Region 10 Tournament that gets underway on March 22.

Two kills by Modlin and a service ace by Daffron helped the Lady Flyers get off to a 4-0 start in the one-sided first set against the Hurricanes. The only time they trailed in the match was briefly early in the tightly contested third set. Later, leading 24-23, the match ended on a service error by one of the Hurricanes.

The top five teams in the Region 10 standings through Thursday are: Catawba Valley 8-0, Cape Fear 7-1, Fayetteville Tech 4-1, Sandhills 7-2 and Davidson-Davie 6-3.
