Lady Flyers Extend Winning Streak to 11 - No. 2 Catawba Valley Next

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team defeated Lenoir CC 25-11, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-18 for its 11th victory in a row on Thursday in Kinston.

The No. 20 ranked Lady Flyers improved to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in Region 10 play.  On Saturday they travel to Hickory for a 1 p.m. match against a No. 2 Catawba Valley CC squad that is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Coach Alicia Riggan's squad got off to a fast start with recent UNC-Asheville signee Carley Modlin recording seven kills in the first set. Leading 2-0, the Lancers ended the Flyers' streak of 25 sets won in a row.

Mariah Daffron helped the Flyers get off to a fast start in the fourth set with a pair of service aces. Modlin, Morrigan Denman and Christen Clontz accounted for most of the swinging as the visitors closed out the match.

Sophomore setter Camryn Lowe finished with a personal Flyer career-high 42 assists. The 17 kills by Modlin were a season-high to go with four blocks.

Also for the Flyers, Clontz was credited with seven kills and 13 digs. Denman contributed seven kills, three service aces and 10 digs. Daffron added three service aces and eight digs.

"We jumped out to an awesome first set," Riggan said. "The second set wasn't bad, but in the third set we totally backed off, had a lot of errors, and our ball control was not as good.

"I'm glad we jumped back in the 4th set. We are ready to practice tomorrow and fix some of the mistakes we made tonight."
