Lady Flyers Drop a Pair of matches in Virginia on Saturday

A whirlwind Saturday for the Sandhills Community College volleyball team included a round-trip to Petersburg, VA, a 3-0 loss to Montgomery CC and a 3-1 defeat at the hands of host Richard Bland CC.

The Lady Flyers, now 1-3, travel to Thomasville on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. match against Davidson County CC.

Coach Alicia Riggan's squad had little time to celebrate Fridays first win of the season against Guilford Tech. They left the campus for Virginia at 7:30 a.m. for the noon and 2 p.m. matches and returned in the evening.

The statistical leaders for the Flyers in the 6-25, 19-25 and 15-25 loss to Montgomery were Camryn Lowe with 15 assists and seven digs, Willow Williams with 12 digs and Carley Modlin with eight kills.

The Flyers got off to a strong start against Richard Bland and dropped a hotly contested fourth set on the way to a 25-20, 23-25, 9-25 and 21-25 loss. Morrigan Denman was credited with nine kills and eight digs and Elyria Hackney had eight kills. Lowe added 19 assists, and the leaders in digs were Williams with nine and Stephanie Pages with seven.

Montgomery swept Richard Bland 25-20, 25-17 and 26-24 in the final contest of the afternoon.
