Lady Flyers Prep For Region X Tournament with Double Sweep of Piedmont

For the second year in a row Sandhills Community College will host the Region X Volleyball Tournament to be held at Heins Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday.

The No. 2 seeded Lady Flyers (17-8 overall, 9-3 Region X) entertain No. 7 Danville CC (1-15, 0-12) at 2 p.m. in one of Friday's two quarterfinal matches. No. 3 Davidson County CC and No. 6 Central Carolina CC play at 4 p.m, while No. 4 Vance-Granville and No. 5 Rockingham CC open things up Saturday at 9 a.m.

The regular season champion, Patrick Henry CC (18-4, 11-1), received a first round bye. They will meet the Vance-Granville-Rockingham winner in Saturday's 11 a.m. semi-final. A win on Friday would put the Flyers in the 1 p.m. semi-final against either Davidson or Central Carolina.

Saturday's winner earns the right to host the District H Tournament on October 29 that will also include teams from Region 19 and 21.

The Flyers closed out the regular season by sweeping Piedmont International University twice in non-conference matches held in Winston-Salem Tuesday evening.
Setter Cheyenne Brown was credited with 32 assists, Paige Garner had 16 kills and Morgan McCarthy contributed six service aces as Coach Alicia Riggan's team prevailed 25-13, 25-9 and 25-18 in the first match.
Garner recorded a season-high 21 kills in the 25-15, 25-8, and 25-12 win in the second match. For the two games combined 5-11 freshman totaled 37 kills (on 61 attack attempts) with only four attack errors.

Brown logged 39 more assists, Erica Groff had 13 digs and Leah Salzwedel had five service aces in the 12th sweep of a match by the Lady Flyers this season.
