Lady Flyers Sweep Vanguards - Host Cougars Thursday on Sophomore Night

The Sandhills Community College volleyball team got back on track with a 25-22, 25-19 and 25-15 Region X victory at Vance-Granville CC Tuesday evening. The Lady Flyers (12-6, 6-1 conference) continue conference play with a 6 p.m. Sophomore Night date at The Hangar on Thursday against Central Carolina CC (3-7, 2-5).

Coming off two losses in a row the Flyers kept pace with first place Patrick Henry CC (13-2, 8-0). Setter Cheyenne Brown saw her most extensive action since spraining an ankle at Central Carolina on September 13 and recorded 19 assists. Paige Garner, 11 kills, and Morgan McCarthy, 10, kills, were efficient up front making only four attack errors between them.

Other statistical leaders were libero Erica Groff with 19 digs, Holly Martindale with 11, Chandler Adams with 10, and Leah Salzwedel with 13 assists. 

The Flyers defeated Central Carolina 3-0 in the first meeting between the teams in Sanford. The latest NJCAA Division III statistics show Groff as third in the nation in total digs (436) and fourth in digs per set (6.51).
