Flyers Race Past Louisburg

The Flyers swept Louisburg in a non-conference tilt inside the Hangar Thursday night. SCC found the consistency they have been searching for early in the season. With the Flyers down 14-17 in the third set Louisburg's serve hit the top of the net but SCC's Chandler Adams dig followed by an Erica Groff dig later in the rally put the home team on a three point run. From there the Flyers took the third set 25-20 after crusing in the first two sets 25-15, 25-13.

A fairly balanced attack led by Paige Garner (13 kills), Holly Martindale (8 kills) and Chandler Adams (7 kills) paced the Flyers. Supporting the offensive effort were Cheyenne Brown (19 assists) and Leah Salzwedel (13 assists). Defensively SCC's Erica Groff (15 digs) and Holly Martindale (11 digs) aided in the winning effort.

Flyers' mentor Alicia Riggan, now in her eighth season, enjoyed her team's effort, "It was great to see us finish the game. We've been working on more consistenty and we got it tonight.

Sophomore Chandler Adams shared Riggan's excitement, "Tonight's game really picked us up from last night's loss and gives us the motivation to get in the gym to get ready for next week!"

The milestone victory, the Flyers first in Heins Gym, was SCC's 2nd game in as many nights. Sandhills fell in a tight 1-3 contest vs. Wake Tech. Leading the way was Adams with 14 kills and Morgan McCarthy with 9 kills. Groff led the way with 27 digs and Adams chipped in 20. Brown was credited with 30 assists.

The Flyers take to the road Tuesday to play both their first Region X, DIII contest and first game versus a fellow DIII opponent. Game time in Sanford is set for 7pm. Sandhills returns to the Hangar Monday, September 19 vs. St. Andrew's.
