Flyers Basketball Splits to Start New Year

Flyers Triumph Over Central Carolina

The Sandhills Flyers started the new year strong with a 99-83 road victory over Central Carolina Community College on January 3. The team showcased a balanced offensive attack led by Kendall Smith, who contributed 24 points, including four three-pointers, and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Antoine Piper dominated the paint with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Damien Robinson added another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Flyers' relentless defense forced 13 turnovers, with Isaiah Upchurch grabbing two steals and scoring 11 points. Sandhills controlled the boards, out-rebounding their opponent 50-42, which proved key in securing the win .

Setback Against Wake Tech

The Flyers faced a tougher challenge on January 4, falling 102-72 to Wake Technical Community College. Despite the loss, Mike Fee delivered an impressive performance, scoring a team-high 18 points on 50% shooting. Isaiah Upchurch also stepped up, contributing 15 points, including three three-pointers. Damien Robinson provided a strong presence in the post with 12 points and seven rebounds. However, Sandhills struggled to contain Wake Tech's efficient offense, which shot 50% from the field and outscored the Flyers 63-33 in the second half .

The Flyers are back in action with a three-game homestand at Heins Gymnasium:

Saturday, January 11: Sandhills hosts Virginia Peninsula CC at 1:00 PM. The game is sponsored by Carolina Eye Associates.

Sunday, January 12: The Flyers take on St. Andrews JV at 1:00 PM, sponsored by The Academy of Moore.

Wednesday, January 15: Sandhills concludes the stretch with a 6:00 PM matchup against Patrick & Henry Community College.
