Flyers Defeat Upset-minded Warbirds With Furious Late Rally

The Flyers took down Hosanna Bible College on Monday evening in a 112-103 thriller. The Flyers move to 12-7 on the season and remain in second place of the NJCAA Region 10. This makes three wins in a row for the Flyers, scoring over one hundred points in all three games.

After the Flyers led by as many as 17 early in the first half, a big comeback by the Warbirds put Hosanna up 55-52 at halftime. Hosanna would go up by as much as 11 with about seven minutes left to play, but the Flyers hung in there and took back the lead with around three minutes left and held on for the nine-point victory.

"We've got to learn that teams won't quit," said Coach Mike Apple, "We've got to continue to play like we played early, and just pile it on, but we just have a hard time doing that.

"Our crowd got into it tonight. Everyone likes to pull for a team that's behind, so we played to the crowd on that, but our kids played hard."

Freshman Damien Robinson recorded his fifteenth double-double of the season, scoring 32 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, while also recording five steals. Sophomore Zach Riddle scored 18 points, while Jamori McDougald, Isaiah Nelson, Jashaun Torrence, and Jamal Williams all scored in double figures. McDougald also led the team with eight assists, while Williams led the team with three blocks.

"I thought Zach Riddle did a good job setting the tempo early on," said Apple, "Jamal Williams got a lot of minutes today, Chad Kinch did a great job coming off the bench, and you can't say enough about Damien Robinson and how hard he plays. He carries us for a lot of stretches throughout the game."

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Shooting for Greatness Academy at 6:00 p.m.
