Cobras Too Much for Flyers

The Sandhills Community College Flyers were overwhelmed by the Caldwell Community College Cobras on Saturday evening as they were defeated 99-80. The Flyers fall to 7-5 on the season, while the Cobras move to 7-1.

"I didn't think we looked ready to play," said Flyers coach Mike Apple, "We didn't do a good job defensively, we didn't do a good job rebounding the ball, and we had a lot of turnovers, so it was just not a very good performance by Sandhills Community College."

The Flyers got out to an early lead, going up by as much as 12 points in the first six minutes of the game, but the Cobras took over and controlled the rest of the game, taking a 50-34 lead into halftime and extending that lead to 19 by the end of the game.

"We capitalized on their mistakes early, but they quit making those mistakes, and when a team does that, your team has to figure other ways to be successful and we couldn't do that," said Apple, "We've got to be able to play consistently for long stretches in a game, especially this time of year, and we were not able to do that."

The Flyers had four starters score in double figures, as Ayden Gittens finished with 16, Zach Riddle finished with 15, Isaiah Nelson finished with 14, and Jamori McDougald ended with 10 points. Riddle also had a team-high six assists, while Damien Robinson contributed 10 rebounds.

"We've got to find our consistency and do some reflection going into the next game," said Apple.

The Flyers look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Pitt Community College at 6:00 PM. Come and support the Flyers at the last home game of 2023!
