Flyers Fall Short vs Spartanburg Methodist

The Sandhills Flyers were defeated on Tuesday evening by the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers 106-93. The Flyers fall to 4-4 on the season, while the Pioneers are now 4-2.

The Pioneers got out to a hot start, taking a 62-35 point lead into halftime, never trailing at all. The Flyers were able to put a small dent into this lead in the second half, but couldn't overcome the large halftime deficit in the 13 point loss.

"We played a little bit harder in the second half than we did in the first, that's a plus," said Coach Mike Apple, "We've got to learn to compete for 40 minutes, that first 20 minutes was pretty rough."

"They do a good job," said Apple, of Spartanburg Methodist, "They're a very disciplined team, and a very talented team, and we didn't have an answer for them tonight."

Freshman Damien Robinson was the team's leading scorer, finishing with 24 points and also contributing 15 rebounds. Sophomores Zach Riddle and Jamori McDougald each put up 18 points, while Isaiah Nelson finished with 15 points.

"We've got to do better defensively," said Apple, "Perimeter-wise, we tend to give guards a pathway to the rim and we've got to do a better job getting in front of people and stopping them."

The Flyers are back at home on Wednesday, November 29th, when they host Shooting 4 Greatness Academy.
