Flyers Take Two on The Road

The Sandhills Community College Flyers opened their basketball season with a 2-0 record over the weekend at the Statesman Classic hosted by Richard Bland in Virgina. 

On Friday, they faced off against Winston Salem Christian and secured an 83-66 victory. The team exhibited a balanced effort, with several players making significant contributions. Ayden Gittens led the Flyers in scoring with 20 points, showcasing his offensive skills. Meanwhile, Damien Robinson dominated the boards with a double-double, pulling down 15 rebounds and scoring 16 points. Jamori McDougald demonstrated his versatility by recording 6 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Zach Riddle and Isaiah Nelson added to the well-rounded performance with 6 and 13 points, respectively.

On Saturday, the Flyers continued their winning streak, defeating Richard Bland College with a commanding 90-73 victory. This time, it was Zach Riddle who stood out with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Jamori McDougald showcased his three-point shooting ability by sinking 6 three-pointers on his way to a 22-point performance. Ayden Gittens contributed 20 points, showing his consistency in scoring.

The Flyers displayed a balanced offense, and their defense was a key factor in both games, with a combined 19 steals and 11 blocks over the weekend.

The Flyers will be on the road again Wednesday as they travel to Guilford Tech for a 7pm game before opening the home slate on Saturday in a 3pm contest with Wake Tech.
