First Half Hail of Three Balls Helps Flyers Prevail at Wake Tech

Jamori McDougald canned four of his team's nine first-half threes and the Sandhills Community College basketball team rolled from there to a 107-89 victory over Wake Tech on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh.

A 6-foot freshman guard, McDougald, finished with a team-high 28 points, including five treys in all as the No. 5 ranked in Division III Flyers improved to 5-0.

Coach Mike Apple's squad plays twice at The Hangar next week, meeting Hosanna Bible College of Durham at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Division II Pitt Community College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

McDougald, Joey McMulllin, Jordan Coleman, Kendall Wooldridge and Chad Kinch all connected from behind the arc as the Flyers built as much as an 18-point lead in the first half. With just under five minutes remaining in the game, a pair of free throws by McMullin gave them their largest lead at 98-77.

McDougald was 9-for-14 from the field and also handed out six assists. Other scoring leaders were McMullin with 19 points and Wooldridge with 14.

Jaquan Thurman finished with a double-double that included 13 points and a team-high dozen rebounds. Jordan Coleman led in assists with nine to go with 10 points.

The Flyers made 40 of their 70 shots from the field (57.1 per cent), including 12 of 22 from beyond the arc (54.5 per cent).  

Jawan Browder led the Eagles, now 0-3, with 25 points.
