Unselfish Flyers Ease by Cavs to Seventh Win in a Row

Playing fast and sharing the ball, the Sandhills Community College basketball team earned a 113-59 road victory over the Montreat junior varsity on Friday evening.

The Flyers matched a season-high with a team total of 36 assists led by freshmen guards Chris Hunter and Kendall Wooldridge with 10 and nine respectively.

Wooldridge also chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals as Coach Mike Apple's squad improved to 17-6 with its seventh win in a row.

The leading scorer was Joey McMullin with 21 points. Darryl McCaster put together a double-double that included 17 points and 10 boards.

Other all-around performances included Bryan Quiller with 17 points, four rebounds and six assists, and LeNijel Robinson with nine points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Camron Zachary contributed 10 points and six rebounds.

Leading 46-27 at halftime, the Flyers turned up the tempo to pour in 67 points after the intermission.

Former Flyers Elijah Idlett and Evan Davis, who are members of the Montreat varsity squad, attended the game.

The Flyers travel to Oxford, GA on Saturday for 1 p.m. Region 10 conference game against Oxford Emory College on Sunday. When they arrive back home on Sunday night, they will have traveled over 1,000 miles in the period of three days.

They go into Sunday's contest with a 5-0 record in Region 10. Central Carolina CC, 4-2, is in second place followed by Oxford Emory, 2-4, and Dabney S. Lancaster, 0-5.

Oxford Emory, 8-9 overall, has won three of its four games since the Flyers won 93-78, also in Oxford, on January 15.

A busy slate of home games next week includes, Hosanna Bible College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Wren College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Oxford Emory on Saturday at 1 p.m.
